According to a local newspaper, Iraqi government has announced duty exemption on the import of 340 Jordanian goods.

Iraq has imposed 30 pct custom duties on all imports from different countries in order to protect domestic industry and increase tax revenue.

In a statement, it said that exemption of particular 300 goods came at the request of Jordan earlier in year 2017.

Jordan’s Ministry of Industry & Trade hopes that the duty exemption will boost exports of Jordanian products to Iraq.

Jordan’s port city Aqaba has played important role in transporting goods to the country. According to the IMF, Jordanian exports to Iraq accounted for almost a fifth of total exports or about USD 1.2 bln per year before Jordan closed their borders due to turmoil in Iraq in 2015. Jordan reopened main border earlier this year.

Jordan’s exports to Iraq include food, electrical appliances, paper, plastic, medicine, fertilizer as well as iron and steel products.
