Qatar: Ashghal plans $6 billion projects next year

90% work on main roads leading to 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums to be completed in 2018.
 
Ashghal announced yesterday that it would implement infrastructure projects worth QR21.8bn in 2018 further saying that 90 percent work on main roads leading to 2022 FIFA World Cup eight stadiums will be completed next year.
 
Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani paid a visit to the headquarters of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday. 
 
The visit reviewed the main achievements of the Authority in 2017, the progress made in realising the Authority’s goals and strategic initiatives, development of the main projects, in addition to reviewing the Authority’s executive plan for 2018 for infrastructure projects.
 
In a statement made on the occasion of the visit of Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani to the Authority’s headquarters, President of Ashghal, Saad bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, said that a total of QR21.8bn were allocated for the Authority’s projects in 2018. 
 
He added a total of QR11.08bn were allocated for establishing highways, QR8.88bn for infrastructure and roads, and QR1.84bn for sewer pumping stations.  He added that the Public Works Authority would complete 90% of all road projects related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup during 2018. H E the Prime Minister and Interior Minister issued directives to finish the current projects within the scheduled time frame.
 
In accordance with the policies of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of meeting the requirements of the current and future phases, giving priority to the plan of preparing the infrastructure of land owned by the citizens and adding new areas to that plan, as well as prioritising projects related to the World Cup 2022 which must be completed on schedule. 
 
Separately, according to figures shared on Ashghal’s twitter account, Ashghal developed infrastructure projects serving as many as 13,279 housing plots in 2017 while the number of housing plots served with infrastructure from 2013-2016 was 5,529. In 2017, 306km of sewerage network was laid while from 2013-2016 it was 49km. The figures further indicate that Ashghal developed 1,829 plots of citizens in 2017.
 
Ashghal in 2017 developed 242km of pedestrian and cycling tracks as compared to 111km developed from 2013 to 2016. In 2017, 250km of roads were constructed by Ashghal as compared to 89km in four years from 2013-2016.
 
The info-graphic further reveals that 59 intersections were constructed in 2017 as compared to 26 from 2013-2016. The figures also indicate the construction of 84 bridges in 2017 by Ashghal while the number of bridges constructed from 2013-16 was 16.
 
The president of Ashghal said that one of the coming year’s top priorities would be to prepare the infrastructure for residential areas, in line with the directives of the Prime Minister of adding new areas to the infrastructure plan for lands belonging to citizens. “A total close to 5,000 pieces of land will be added to the plan and provided with the necessary infrastructure.” 
 
Ashghal will carry out a total of 19 infrastructure projects in 12 areas during 2018. Those projects will serve 15,108 pieces of land. The authority will also finish another 11 infrastructure projects in 11 areas, serving 5,644 pieces of land. The authority will complete 113 new kilometres of highways in 2018, including 20 new main intersections. 
 
On the sewage projects, he said that there will be 279 points that will prevent the grouping of rain fall in those areas. There will also be four new projects for pumping and sewage treatment. 
 
The year 2017 saw the establishment of 14 mosques, three health centers, and 16 schools. There will be a total of nine projects in the health and education field that will be completed in 2018. 
 
On encouraging local construction firms to increase their participation in those projects, President of Ashghal said that there will be a total of five projects offered to small construction firms in line with the directives of the Prime Minister. 
 
A total of 47 factories will also be refurbished to boost Qatari industrialists and producers.
