Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has signed three major contracts to advance the dualisation of Sultan Said bin Taimour Road, significantly improving transport links between Muscat and Dhofar. The contracts, worth more than OMR 258 million (approximately USD 670 million), cover the third, fourth, and fifth sections of the project—spanning a total of 400 km.
The agreements were signed by H.E. Saeed bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
The contract for the third section—132.5 km between Haima and Muqshin—was awarded to a joint venture between Sarooj Construction Company (Oman) and Rawaf Contracting Company (Saudi Arabia). The three-year project will include the construction of a dual carriageway, 16 bypass lanes, one overpass bridge, 115 reinforced concrete box culverts, 88 median pipe culverts, and infrastructure ducts to support future broadband services.
Additional features will include four rest areas, 21 public parking zones, eight emergency openings, and 22 Royal Oman Police parking bays. The scope of work also covers road rehabilitation, wadi crossings, and the implementation of safety enhancements.
