Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced plans to initiate ten drainage projects in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to its official website.
Of these, nine will be managed by the Drainage Networks Projects Department, while one will be overseen by the Drainage Network Operation and Maintenance Department.
Key projects include:
Construction of the 755/1TSE transmission main in Al Shamal
Foul sewer GAP tunnel in Doha North
Sewer network refurbishment in Qatar’s south and west
Rainwater drainage works in Al Thumama
Road and infrastructure improvements in Madinat Khalifa, North East Al Wakra, and North Smeisma
Transition from vacuum to gravity sewer system in Al Dafna
Stormwater flood prevention measures in East Al Thumama
These projects are part of a broader list of 27 initiatives set to launch during the same period, involving Ashghal’s Buildings Projects, Roads Operation & Maintenance, and Roads Projects Departments.
Additional projects include:
Expansion of the Aquatic Biology and Fish Farming Research Centre in Ras Al Matbakh
Development of fire systems for 140 schools (Phase 2)
Construction of land transport customs buildings
Upgrades to sports facilities for the Ministry of Sports and Youth (southern sector, Package 2)
Ashghal recently unveiled a major five-year development strategy (2025–2029), with investments exceeding QR81 billion. This comprehensive plan—the largest in Ashghal’s history—covers infrastructure projects such as citizens’ land development, government buildings, sewerage systems, and strategic outfalls.
The plan prioritizes sustainable urban development, integrating human-centered design to enhance livability. It also emphasizes infrastructure that supports key sectors including health, education, sports, and culture, alongside advanced water drainage systems and flood mitigation solutions.
