Qatar is rapidly strengthening its reputation as a premier global hub for tourism and leisure, propelled by large-scale development projects, a focus on experiential travel, and strong performance across visitor arrivals and hospitality metrics.
As the country advances toward its National Tourism Strategy 2030 goals, recent data and initiatives highlight impressive progress, growing international appeal, and innovation across the sector.
One of the most transformative undertakings is the Simaisma coastal destination valued at around USD 5.4 billion, set to become a landmark for tourism and recreation. This project underscores Qatar’s commitment to sustainable, inclusive sector growth aligned with the country’s broader development vision.
At the same time, Hamad International Airport’s expansion continues to position Qatar as a connected and accessible travel hub, enhancing the visitor experience amid rising demand.
These infrastructure upgrades come as global travel preferences shift. More travelers are seeking enriching, personalized experiences—from cultural immersions and wellness retreats to culinary exploration and adventure tourism.
To meet this demand, Qatar’s tourism strategy is targeting six high-potential segments and has already launched 54 strategic projects across product development, regulation, and visitor experience enhancements.
The sector achieved record economic impact in 2024, contributing USD 14.85 billion to the national GDP—8% of total output and a 14% increase over 2023. Qatar is firmly on track to achieve its goal of tourism accounting for 12% of GDP by 2030.
International visitor numbers reached 5.08 million in 2024, exceeding the annual target of 4.79 million. Spending also surged, with nearly USD 10.8 billion in in-country expenditures.
The hospitality industry marked a milestone with 10 million room nights sold, well above the goal of 8.8 million.
To leverage this momentum, Visit Qatar launched its 2025 summer campaign, Moments Made for You, inviting travelers from the GCC and beyond to discover Qatar’s diverse premium offerings.
The campaign showcases activities for families, couples, and friends. Air-conditioned attractions like Gewan Island, luxury shopping, and the Meryal Waterpark cater to summer visitors, while pristine beaches and resorts such as Banana Island offer relaxation and water sports.
From Michelin-starred restaurants to local favorites, Qatar’s culinary scene is also front and center.
Moments Made for You positions the country as a safe, family-friendly destination with robust infrastructure and a variety of experiences for all travelers.
In partnership with Discover Qatar, Qatar Tourism has relaunched its popular Whale Shark Tours for the 2025 season. These eco-tours allow guests to observe one of the largest gatherings of whale sharks in the world, departing from Ruwais Port and exploring the Al Shaheen Marine Zone under the guidance of marine biologists.
Running June through September, the tours combine conservation awareness with a remarkable marine adventure.
Adding to the summer calendar is Scoop by the Sea, an ice cream-themed festival at West Bay North Beach from June 18 to August 13, 2025.
The event features interactive sports competitions, foam parties, live shows, and attractions like the Virtual Reality F1 Car Experience. Highlights include The Water Fest with kitesurfing displays, the SUP Costume Fest, and eco-friendly competitions where participants generate electricity by pedaling bikes. Each day concludes with aerial shows and celebratory displays.
Qatar’s global marketing efforts have been effective, attracting a diverse visitor base. In 2024, GCC nationals accounted for 41% of arrivals, with the rest coming from top markets including Saudi Arabia, India, the UK, Germany, and the US.
Looking ahead, Qatar’s tourism strategy continues to deliver strong results, both economically and in global recognition. With its rich mix of cultural experiences, luxury hospitality, and family attractions, Qatar is not only meeting current objectives but also building a resilient foundation for long-term growth.
From cultural festivals and ecotourism to world-class resorts and vibrant entertainment, Qatar promises memorable experiences for every visitor—cementing its place among the world’s most dynamic travel destinations.
