Iraq has given the green light to a project to build 5,000 homes in Basra, the southern port city, as part of efforts to address the country’s housing shortage, according to the province’s governor.
Asaad Al-Idani told Shafaq News Agency that the development contract has been awarded to a private developer and is aimed at providing affordable housing for citizens.
Covering an area of approximately 3 square kilometers, the project has been approved by Iraq’s National Investment Commission (NIC).
“This project involves constructing nearly 5,000 housing units for citizens in its first phase,” Idani said, without disclosing the developer’s identity or the total investment value.
