The International Green Awards, one of the most important green awards in the world, recently announced shortlists for this year’s program, representing the most sustainable organizations across the world. Winners will be declared at our awards ceremony on 20th November 2012.
This year, the awards have introduced a revolutionary new entry format in the bid to find organizations that have embedded sustainability across their processes. Organizations were evaluated on sustainability vision, level of innovation and advocacy against 8 sustainability indicators ranging from energy and carbon, through to supply chain and resources. Additionally, the awards have also partnered with WWF-UK to find one true ‘Green Game-Changer’ across products, services and business models.
The candidates for the awards were selected according to seven categories including the Most Sustainable Large Corporate, Most Sustainable Medium Organization, Most Sustainable Small Organization, Most Sustainable NGO, Most Sustainable Educational Institution, Most Sustainable Government and WWF Green Game-Changer.
Lebanese NGO “Green Globe” was nominated in the category of the Most Sustainable NGO in the world. Green Globe was chosen after the huge work the Lebanese NGO has done in raising awareness and because of the success of the Green Globe Festival 2012. Green Globe was nominated with four other NGOs; two from the UK, one from the USA, and one from Indonesia. Green Globe, as a Lebanese NGO, is the only nominee from the Arab countries and from the Middle East.

Green Globe was founded in Lebanon on the 28th of February 2000 as an independent non-governmental and non-profit organization (NGO).
Green Globe’s main objective in Lebanon and the MENA region is to work for a green globe in the fields of:
1- Environment, climate change and renewable energy
2- Sustainable development, agriculture and cultural heritage
3- Human rights, women and children rights
4- Fighting hunger, pain and injustice
5- Peace and democracy
Green Globe’s Achievements
Green Globe has succeeded in raising awareness of 5,000 Lebanese school and university students through lectures and activities all over Lebanon. The organization has provided guidance on capacity building in the environment for 150 trainers and professors across Lebanon, including trainers for the Ministry of Education, capacity building in leadership, advocacy, environment, sustainable development, communication and social media for 130 young Lebanese University students in Beqaa and South Lebanon, participation to 50 national and international seminars and workshops and report about environment in Lebanon in addition to forestation in different Lebanese regions.

Launched in 2006, the International Green Awards were set up to recognize true global sustainability examples that have been innovative and creative in pursuing the sustainability imperative. Over the past 7 years, the awards have enhanced their brand presence and now boast an audience that includes global companies, governments and charities.
Each year, award winners are given due credit and recognized at a gala ceremony amidst a ‘green carpet’ and ‘green tie’ affair. The awards night is now an established event on the global sustainable business calendar. This year, the ceremony will be held at Battersea Power Station on 20th November 2012 featuring a champagne reception and three course dinner.
The night also sees the unveiling of the ‘Most Responsible Celebrity’, previously awarded to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen and the Lifetime Achievement Award, won by Sir David Attenborough in the past.
