Abu Dhabi-based real estate developer Aldar Properties has unveiled its 2025 sustainability objectives in its latest Sustainability Report, outlining a series of bold initiatives aligned with the UAE’s environmental vision. The company is accelerating its efforts across waste management, energy efficiency, and low-carbon construction.
Revamping Waste Management
As part of its waste reduction strategy, Aldar aims to recycle 87% of construction and demolition waste by 2025, along with a 10% increase in total recycling activities. Complementary water conservation initiatives include installing smart systems and efficient fixtures, with the goal of reducing water intensity by 2% across its managed portfolio.
Low-Carbon Design and Materials
In alignment with national decarbonisation goals, Aldar has set clear environmental performance benchmarks:
A 30% reduction in energy intensity from ASHRAE 2007 baseline
A 40% reduction in water use intensity from Estidama standards
A 20% decrease in embodied carbon in construction materials
These targets reflect a comprehensive approach to sustainable design and material selection.
Solar Energy Expansion
Aldar is also advancing its clean energy agenda with the deployment of a 34 MW solar project across 45 locations, expected to be completed by mid-2025. In its first year, the initiative will reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 23,000 tonnes, with projected long-term savings exceeding 560,000 tonnes over two decades.
Sustainable Procurement and Training
To reinforce sustainability across operations, Aldar will mandate that all construction tenders above AED 5 million and non-construction tenders exceeding AED 500,000 adhere to sustainability assessment criteria. Contractors will receive dedicated training to ensure alignment with environmental standards.
Circular Economy Initiative
In collaboration with Tadweer, Aldar is launching the Ecoloop circular waste management facility in the second half of 2025. The facility is expected to deliver annual CO₂ savings of 32,500 tonnes, advancing circular economy principles within the sector.
Aldar’s 2025 sustainability roadmap underscores its leadership in green real estate development, supporting a more climate-resilient, resource-efficient, and smart urban future in the UAE.
