Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has launched construction on a major research infrastructure initiative aimed at advancing veterinary and agricultural sciences across the country. In partnership with the Ministry of Municipality, the project includes the development of high-standard laboratories in the Old Airport area, Al Sheehaniya, and Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP).
Announced on 7 May, the initiative supports Qatar National Vision 2030 by strengthening research capabilities through modern facilities designed to meet international standards. According to Project Manager Engineer Ahmed Saleh, the labs will offer cutting-edge environments for scientific work and innovation.
Key components of the project include:
Old Airport Area: Full renovation of the existing veterinary laboratories, including upgraded structural integrity, enhanced lab units, and a new autopsy facility.
Al Sheehaniya: A 1,191 sqm agricultural research center with labs for physical and chemical analysis, spectroscopy, and soil testing. The facility will also include offices, meeting rooms, and storage.
QSTP: Units 104–106 will be transformed into specialised labs for pesticides, plant biotechnology, herbs, and seeds, with added amenities for researchers.
Engineer Asmaa Al-Musallmani confirmed that the project—targeted for completion in Q2 2026—will use approximately 55% locally sourced materials, promoting both sustainability and domestic industry. Meanwhile, Engineer Fahad Al Abdullah added that the QSTP labs will comply with Qatar Foundation’s strict quality and innovation standards.
Each site is being designed with energy efficiency and cultural integration in mind, combining Qatari identity with environmentally friendly construction methods, including low-emission materials and water-saving technologies.
