The National Food Safety Authority announced that Egypt received around 2,060 food shipments last week, weighing approximately 345,000 tonnes and imported by 910 companies.
A report from the Authority’s media centre noted that imports included wheat, various oils, local fava beans, and soybeans. Ukraine was the leading exporter to Egypt during the week, followed by Russia, Indonesia, and the United States, among a total of 84 supplying countries.
Alexandria Port remained the main entry point, handling 660 shipments, followed by Cairo International Airport with 510 shipments and Ain Sokhna Port with 265.
For customs clearance:
1,064 shipments were released under provisional clearance.
475 shipments were processed via the fast-track release system.
The Grievance Committee issued 90 incident reports.
85 import licences were granted to importers.
Meanwhile, according to the General Administration for Exports and Imports, Egypt exported about 165,000 tonnes of food products last week through 3,810 shipments handled by 1,250 companies.
Exports covered 644 types of food items, including vegetables, tubers, processed fruits and vegetables, and grain products:
Vegetables: Beans led with 8,000 tonnes, followed by potatoes (7,000 tonnes) and mixed frozen vegetables (6,000 tonnes). In total, 50 vegetable products were exported, amounting to 45,000 tonnes.
Fruits: Strawberries topped the list with 10,000 tonnes, followed by mangoes and red grapes at about 5,000 tonnes each. A total of 30 fruit varieties were exported, totalling 26,000 tonnes.
Egypt’s food exports reached 170 international markets, with Sudan, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Russia among the top importers. Alexandria Port again led export activity with 710 shipments, followed by Damietta Port (449 shipments) and Cairo International Airport (435 shipments).
To support export growth, the Authority issued 750 health certificates last week under a system launched earlier this year to ensure compliance with food safety standards and strengthen global confidence in Egyptian products.
