Iraq’s Ministry of Industry and Minerals has unveiled a strategic plan to establish new cement factories that will boost the country’s production capacity to 52 million tons annually.
Ministry spokesperson Doha Al-Jabouri told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that existing cement facilities—both state-owned and privately operated—currently produce around 32 million tons per year. The new initiative aims to address increasing domestic demand and support Iraq’s ongoing construction and infrastructure development.
Al-Jabouri noted that the ministry is offering investment opportunities for the creation of fully integrated cement plants with a projected annual output of 52 million tons.
As part of this broader strategy, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani inaugurated six major cement projects in Muthanna province in April, with a total investment of $1.171 billion. These include:
Najmat Al-Samawa Cement Plant 2: Now operational, producing 6,000 tons per day.
Al-Arabi Cement Plant
Khairat Al-Muthanna Cement Plant
Al-Ittihad Cement Plant
Each of the above with a daily capacity of 6,000 tons.Al-Samawa Cement Plant: Planned output of 6,600 tons per day.
Caustic Soda Project: Capacity of 1,200 tons per day.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized that these projects are part of a broader effort to meet domestic construction material needs, reduce reliance on imports, and support Iraq’s economic development.
