On 25 June 2025, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a key meeting of the High Committee overseeing the New Al-Sadr City Project in Tuzai. He issued clear directives to launch all infrastructure components in tandem with residential construction phases.
The committee reviewed ongoing service infrastructure works and evaluated optimal economic and urban planning strategies for the city. The first phase of development includes 11,000 housing units, with a detailed focus on architectural designs and site distribution.
Key infrastructure elements discussed included:
Integration of the city’s power station with the national electricity grid.
Construction of water, sewage, and telecom networks, ensuring full connectivity with Baghdad’s existing infrastructure.
Development of road links connecting the city to Baghdad’s fourth and fifth ring roads and the planned metro network.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for synchronized progress across all aspects of the project and requested monthly progress updates from all stakeholders.
The New Al-Sadr City project stands as one of Iraq’s most ambitious urban development initiatives, designed to alleviate housing shortages in Baghdad and strengthen metropolitan connectivity.
