His Excellency Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, confirmed in a statement to Oman News Agency that road construction works in Dhofar are progressing according to schedule and in line with approved requirements and standards. He noted that efforts are being intensified to complete project phases swiftly due to their importance in improving traffic safety, facilitating mobility, enhancing inter-governorate connectivity, and stimulating economic, social, and tourism activity.
The minister highlighted that the ministry has adopted modern construction methods, such as using pre-cast concrete moulds for water culverts in valley courses to drain rainwater. This approach improves quality and accelerates implementation. One key example is the dualisation of the 33km Raysut–Mughsail road in Salalah, which is currently 10 percent complete. The project includes eight overpasses and underpasses, animal crossings, two roundabouts, and links with the 18 November Road and Salalah city centre, extending to the Sarfait border crossing in Dhalkout Governorate.
He further pointed to the Sultan Said bin Taimour road project, the longest dual carriageway in Oman at 875km, which receives special attention. Work is ongoing on the third, fourth, and fifth sections—covering nearly 400km. Progress stands at 10.2 percent on the 132.5km third section between Haima and Maqshin, 3.82 percent on the 135km fourth section from Maqshin to Dukha, and 3.09 percent on the 132.5km fifth section from Dukha to Thumrait.
In Salalah, internal road dualisation projects are also advancing: Sultan Taimour Street in Al Saada (6.8km) has reached 57 percent completion, while Al Farooq Street (7.6km) has reached 62 percent. These projects aim to accommodate urban and economic growth while reducing traffic congestion.
The minister also reviewed other major projects: the Harweeb–Al Mazyouna–Meeten road in Al Mazyouna Wilayat (210km, four sections) is 72 percent complete, alongside the Andaat–Hibrut road (10km). Both aim to boost connectivity between niyabats and support economic and tourism development. Meanwhile, the asphalt network project in Maqshin Wilayat (170km, four sections) has reached 66 percent completion, with delivery scheduled for June 2026.
Concluding, His Excellency noted that the Seeh Al Kheerat–Al Shisar road in Thumrait (46km) is 12.3 percent complete and is being developed in cooperation with the Development Office of Najd Agricultural Area, with completion set for October 2026. He underlined its significance in serving vital agricultural regions.
