Oman has unveiled a major tourism initiative worth $207.8 million aimed at enhancing infrastructure in the Dhofar Governorate. The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism officially broke ground on the project during a foundation stone-laying ceremony held in the Junuf area of Salalah.
The first phase of the development will span more than 600,000 square meters, forming part of a broader master plan covering 2.5 million square meters of coastal land.
Boosting Local Enterprises and Employment
Azzan Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, emphasized the project’s role in supporting small and medium enterprises, creating employment opportunities, and launching training and qualification programs for Omani citizens.
He described the initiative as “a qualitative addition to national efforts to develop tourism destinations in Oman, especially in Dhofar, which enjoys rich natural and environmental diversity.”
A Key Driver of Tourism Growth in Dhofar
Khalid Abdullah Al Abri, Director General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar, described the project as one of the region’s most significant tourism investments, both in terms of scale and the diversity of its offerings.
The first phase will feature a five-star hotel, one of Oman’s largest yacht marinas, and a fully integrated beachfront, all of which aim to strengthen Dhofar’s tourism infrastructure. Al Abri also underscored the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote Dhofar as a premier tourism destination by expanding into new markets and launching direct flight routes.
The new integrated tourism complex is expected to make a substantial contribution to the growth of Oman’s tourism sector.
