Oman’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has issued a call for international consultancy firms to submit bids for a major resort project atop Jabal Al-Akhdar—the nation’s highest peak. The development, named Al Jabal Al Aali (The Omani Mountain Destination), is valued at approximately OMR 1.2 billion ($3 billion).
Planned as a mixed-use residential, hospitality, and wellness destination, the project will cover 11.8 square kilometers in Al Dakhiliya Governorate. It forms part of the Ministry’s broader initiative to develop sustainable cities across Oman.
The winning consultancy firm will be tasked with delivering the master plan and detailed engineering design, including full infrastructure planning, architectural work, and the preparation and award of major construction tenders.
Key components of the project include over 2,500 residential units, 2,000 hotel rooms, wellness and biodiversity zones, and various sports facilities. A standout feature is the Western Wellness Village—a RO200 million ($520 million) health and ecotourism cluster comprising around 500 residences and hotel units across 630,000 sqm.
The resort is expected to accommodate roughly 10,000 residents and will serve as a flagship component of Oman’s long-term urban development and investment strategy.
Bidding for the Al Jabal Al Aali consultancy tender closes on July 10, 2025.
