The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources reports that the Quriyat fishing port’s marine wharf development project has reached 83% completion. Valued at over RO 2.97 million (approx. $7.7 million), the initiative supports Oman Vision 2040 goals to modernize fishing ports and strengthen their contribution to coastal economies.
Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rashdi, Civil Engineer at the Directorate General of Fishing Ports, said the project will drive economic diversification, attract investment, and expand the fishing fleet. “We aim to create an investment-friendly environment and maximize the use of fish resources by enhancing port services for both public and private users,” he noted.
The development features a 185-meter fixed berth along the breakwater to improve maritime handling and increase port capacity. It also includes a new marine berth for mooring vessels, designed to boost operational efficiency.
Additionally, a 33,000-square-meter investment area is being developed within the port to host commercial and service activities related to marine fisheries. A dedicated space for a marine crane will further support vessel maintenance.
