Saudi Arabia has announced plans for a landmark $7 billion railway corridor designed to link Jeddah on the Red Sea with Dammam on the Arabian Gulf, forming a vital artery within the Kingdom’s national rail network. Stretching over 1,500 kilometers, the project includes a new 900-kilometer high-speed line for both passengers and freight between Riyadh and Jeddah. This route will cut travel time from 12 hours to under 4, while greatly increasing freight capacity.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2025, with completion targeted by 2030. The corridor will include a bypass around Riyadh, upgrades to the existing Riyadh–Dammam line, and new rail connections between King Abdullah Port and Yanbu. These developments will enhance integration between key ports, industrial areas, and major cities.
The ambitious project aims to boost trade between Saudi Arabia’s eastern and western regions and supports the goals of Vision 2030, particularly in expanding logistics infrastructure, advancing industrial growth, and promoting sustainable transport. Execution will involve a mix of local contractors and international engineering firms, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s rising profile in global infrastructure.
