Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani has instructed officials to finalise all procedural steps for the Baghdad Metro project, adopting a revised execution plan designed to accelerate progress.
In a high-level meeting with the Head of the Iraq Development Fund, the Mayor of Baghdad, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Al-Sudani reviewed a new strategic vision aimed at delivering the long-anticipated metro system for the capital.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office noted that earlier bids from prospective companies were declined, prompting the adoption of a model inspired by global best practices.
The updated framework calls for establishing partnerships between the Iraqi government and both domestic and international investors. Leading firms will be engaged to execute the project, ensuring comprehensive development of infrastructure, consultancy, transit systems, and environmental, social, and economic assessments.
Al-Sudani underlined the metro’s significance as a cornerstone infrastructure initiative and directed all stakeholders to complete the required consultancy studies ahead of further deliberations at the upcoming session.
