Egypt’s ambitious High-Speed Rail (HSR) project has tapped Johnson Controls–Hitachi Air Conditioning Middle East and Africa (MEA), in partnership with Elsewedy Machinery, to deliver a large-scale HVAC solution that will cool 21 stations nationwide.
The contract includes the supply of more than 3,000 high-efficiency Hitachi Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) indoor units, all manufactured at the company’s facility in Barcelona, Spain. These units will provide a combined cooling capacity exceeding 11,000 Refrigeration Tons (RT), with Eurovent certification and high-ambient durability tailored to Egypt’s climate and transit needs.
Spanning 660 kilometers, Egypt’s HSR will connect major cities including Ain Sokhna, Alexandria, Cairo, Alamein, and 6th of October City, with a total of 21 stations expected to serve over one million passengers and 8,500 tons of cargo daily. The project is positioned as a landmark in Egypt’s shift toward sustainable, efficient transport infrastructure, dramatically reducing travel times and streamlining logistics across the country.
Ahmed Aqel, General Manager of Johnson Controls–Hitachi MEA, called the development “a pivotal advancement in Egypt’s national infrastructure agenda,” adding:
“We are proud to deliver our advanced HVAC systems to a project of this scale and significance. Our collaboration with Elsewedy Machinery ensures technical precision, operational excellence, and a lasting impact.”
Elsewedy Machinery, the trading arm of Elsewedy Electric Group, will oversee the full HVAC deployment—handling supply, installation, copper piping, system startup, commissioning, and after-sales service.
Aqel emphasized the synergy between global engineering and local expertise:
“This partnership integrates cutting-edge European HVAC technology into Egypt’s high-speed rail infrastructure, setting new standards in sustainable, large-scale transport solutions.”
With this step, Egypt’s HSR project continues to reflect the country’s forward-looking vision for modern infrastructure, combining innovation, sustainability, and strategic national growth.
