Ireland’s food and drink exports to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region soared to €546.9 million ($624 million) in 2024, reflecting the region’s growing significance to Ireland’s agri-food sector, according to Bord Bia – The Irish Food Board.
The announcement coincides with insights from Bord Bia’s second annual CEO Pulse Survey, which captures the perspectives of companies responsible for nearly €11 billion ($12.5 billion) in global exports — around two-thirds of Ireland’s total food and drink export value.
The survey revealed that 56% of Irish exporters expect growth in MENA markets in 2025, despite ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges. Exporters cited strong consumer demand, a growing appetite for sustainably sourced products, and deeper trade ties as key factors behind their optimism.
Kieran Fitzgerald, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa at Bord Bia, noted:
“Irish food and drink companies continue to see the Middle East and Africa as high-potential markets. The strength of 2024’s export performance, combined with positive business sentiment, reinforces Ireland’s position as a trusted source of high-quality food and drink solutions in the region.”
A major contributor to this success is Ornua, Ireland’s leading dairy exporter. The company is expanding its footprint in the region, particularly in Saudi Arabia.
David Butler, Managing Director of Ornua Ingredients International, said:
“The Middle East remains a key growth area for Ornua, with rising demand for premium and innovative dairy products.
Our investment in Saudi Arabia underscores our long-term commitment, helping us respond more swiftly to customer needs and deepen local partnerships. The Kingdom’s strategic location also offers a strong base to serve the wider MENA region.”
Ireland’s expanding agri-food presence highlights its growing role in supporting regional food security and sustainable supply chains.
