Oman’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR), in collaboration with the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund, has launched a new agricultural collection and logistics hub in Ibra, North Sharqiyah. The project, valued at over $780,000 (RO 300,000), aims to boost local produce and streamline distribution across the governorate.
Set in the Masroon area, the 42,000-square-meter facility will serve as a central hub for receiving, storing, sorting, and packaging seasonal produce. It will also feature dedicated sales outlets and a daily produce display area.
Mohammed bin Ali al Duwaiki, Vice-Chairman of the Oman Agriculture Association in North Sharqiyah, said the initiative marks a major step in improving agricultural marketing and enhancing product quality for both domestic and export markets.
Currently in the bidding phase, construction is expected to start in Q4 2025 and take approximately two years to complete. Once operational, the center will enable farmers to market their goods through regulated channels, improving traceability and value addition through modern processing techniques.
This initiative forms part of the ministry’s national strategy to establish similar hubs across the sultanate, aimed at building efficient supply chains, promoting agri-tech adoption, and strengthening Oman’s food security.
