Sultan Haitham City is a major urban housing project in Oman, with an estimated cost of 2.6 billion USD. The project spans 14 million square meters and aims to accommodate 100,000 people with 20,000 residential. It includes various facilities like a major college, healthcare facilities, a government university, and a youth center. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
The landscape and external space design for Phase One of Sultan Haitham City has received the Best Landscape Architectural Design Award for 2025–2026 at the Arabian Property Awards. Developed in collaboration with LWK + Partners and Meinhardt, both renowned for their expertise in urban and engineering design, the project marks a significant milestone in Oman’s urban development journey.
This international recognition underscores the city’s commitment to sustainable planning that harmoniously integrates human and environmental needs. The design features a well-balanced distribution of open spaces, interconnected green corridors, and pedestrian-friendly walkways, promoting livability and reinforcing the principles of smart, sustainable urbanism.
According to Eng. Amal al Zaidi, urban planner and landscape engineer at the Executive Office for Future Cities, the award reflects Sultan Haitham City’s adherence to the highest benchmarks of sustainable design. “It is a model of integrated planning that connects residents with their environment, blending functionality with aesthetic appeal,” she said.
The city is being developed in coordination with leading local and international firms specialising in design and engineering supervision. Implementation is underway on infrastructure and the first residential neighborhoods, as part of a broader development vision grounded in global best practices.
