Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed mechanisms to enhance trade and investment cooperation between the Qatari private sector and its Iraqi counterpart.
This came during a series of meetings held by the Vice-President of Qatar Chamber Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Tawar on the sidelines of his visit to Iraqi Kurdistan, during which he discussed the opportunities of trade and investment cooperation between Qatar and Iraq and ways to enhance trade exchange and establish alliances between businessmen from both countries.
During the visit, both sides discussed the investment opportunities in the Iraqi education and industry sectors. The discussions also included the possibility of cooperation in the oil and gas, industry, agriculture and food security sectors, and it was agreed to continue communication to discuss the development of some projects.
On a statement issued by the Chamber Saturday, Vice-President said that the Iraqi side called for strengthening trade and investment cooperation with Qatar. Qatari businessmen were invited to invest in Iraqi Kurdistan, especially with the presence of many investment opportunities and an attractive climate for investment, the statement added.
He pointed out that many opportunities related to food security have been presented, especially that the Kurdistan region of Iraq is famous for its high quality vegetables and fruits, with fertile soil and suitable weather, noting that many Iraqi companies have expressed their desire to identify the Qatari market and find a foothold in it, as their products are characterized by high quality and competitive prices.
The Vice-President of Qatar Chamber noted that the investment climate in Iraq's Kurdistan is an attractive one, has been characterized with security and safety, and the development of legislation and laws that serve investment and give investors great advantages.
Bin Tawar said Iraqi officials had assured him that they wanted to see Qatari investments in Iraq, that Qatar has a special status in Iraq and welcomed Qatari investments.
