Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) continues to reinforce its role as Qatar’s leading provider of specialized mental health care—and one of the most advanced in the region—through a concerted effort to expand service availability and enhance care quality.
In recent years, HMC has significantly increased the number and scope of its mental health services, making expert care more accessible and community-centered.
“Our mental health services have grown considerably, both in range and in quality,” said Dr. Majid Al Abdulla, Chair of Mental Health at HMC. “We are proud to deliver patient-centered, evidence-based care, supported by expert clinical teams and state-of-the-art facilities. Our accreditation by the Joint Commission International affirms our dedication to world-class standards.”
A major step forward has been the expansion of inpatient services at Mesaieed General Hospital, which now hosts most of HMC’s adult inpatient mental health care. The facility offers a modern, private, and therapeutic environment. Additional long-term and specialized services are also provided at Al Wakra Hospital, Muaither Residential Care Compound (RCC2), and other HMC centers.
To ensure care is available closer to home, HMC has collaborated with Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) to launch integrated mental health clinics in eight primary health centers. These clinics allow patients to receive psychiatry and psychology services in a familiar, non-stigmatizing setting alongside routine physical healthcare.
The integrated model covers key areas such as adult psychiatry, ADHD, and older adult mental health, with close coordination between HMC specialists and PHCC teams to deliver seamless, high-quality care.
Outpatient mental health services are available at several HMC sites including Hamad General Hospital, Mesaieed, Al Wakra, Al Khor, Hazm Mebaireek, Muaither Clinic, and Aisha Bint Hamad Al Attiyah Hospital.
Recognizing the importance of accessibility, HMC has also expanded its virtual care offerings. The National Mental Health Helpline (16000) connects callers directly with trained mental health professionals for immediate support. Secure telehealth platforms enable patients to attend follow-up psychiatric appointments remotely, enhancing continuity of care from the comfort of home.
HMC’s virtual portfolio also includes specialized services such as the Women’s Mental Health Service, which offers confidential support tailored to women’s unique mental health needs.
“Early intervention and easy access are key to improving mental health outcomes,” said Amal Alobaidli, Acting Executive Director of Nursing at the Mental Health Service. “Our strategy focuses on embedding mental health care within communities, and initiatives like the integrated clinics and helpline ensure timely and stigma-free access to support whenever it’s needed.”
