Iraq’s key commercial ports reported a solid performance in the first half of 2025, handling more than 22.4 million tons of cargo and receiving over 1,500 ships — a reflection of improved operational efficiency and ongoing development in the country’s maritime transport sector.
According to Farhan Al-Fartousi, Director of the General Company for Ports of Iraq, a total of 1,522 ships called at the ports of Umm Qasr North, Umm Qasr South, Khor Al-Zubair, and Abu Flous, with combined cargo volumes reaching 22,423,518 tons.
Port Performance Highlights:
Khor Al-Zubair Port led in cargo volume, handling 9,696,697 tons from 396 ships.
Umm Qasr North Port recorded the highest vessel traffic, receiving 689 ships and handling 6,855,426 tons.
Umm Qasr South Port processed 5,409,424 tons from 252 ships.
Abu Flous Port handled 461,971 tons from 185 ships.
Al-Fartousi noted that these results are part of a broader strategy by the company to enhance the competitiveness of Iraqi ports and bring their operations in line with global standards.
