Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met with Qatari Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al-Thani to explore closer collaboration in transport and logistics. The discussions centered on Iraq’s $17 billion Development Road project, with both sides reviewing joint ventures and investment prospects in rail, aviation, ports, and freight to enhance regional integration and economic growth.
A key pillar of this partnership, the Development Road aims to transform Iraq into a vital trade corridor linking the Grand Faw Port to Europe through an extensive rail and road network. In April 2024, Iraq, Qatar, Turkiye, and the UAE signed an MoU to advance the initiative collectively.
Beyond infrastructure, energy cooperation is also gaining momentum. As Iraq looks to reduce dependence on Iranian gas in light of U.S. sanctions, Qatar is emerging as a potential LNG supplier—further reinforcing strategic ties between the two nations.
