Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shayya al-Sudani officially opened Mosul International Airport, marking its full reconstruction and operational readiness. The ceremony was attended by key ministers — Interior, Transport, and Construction & Housing — alongside the Governor of Nineveh, Provincial Council members, and representatives of local institutions.
Touring the newly completed facilities, al-Sudani hailed the airport as a significant government achievement. He announced that the airport would officially commence operations within two months, improving Nineveh’s air connectivity, promoting economic recovery, and contributing to regional stability.
Destroyed during ISIS’s occupation in 2014, Mosul International Airport has now been fully restored with a capacity of 630,000 passengers and 30,000 tons of cargo annually. Reconstruction began in 2022, backed by a 200 billion Iraqi dinar budget.
Meanwhile, construction continues on the Ishtar Sheraton Hotel in central Baghdad — a major project near Baghdad International Airport and the Tigris River.
