Oman recycled 2.4 million tonnes of construction and demolition waste in 2024, a notable milestone in the country’s drive toward environmental sustainability and a circular economy.
The announcement came during a two-day workshop titled “Environmental Sustainability of Construction and Demolition Waste Management: Challenges and Opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman”, organized by the Environment Authority (EA) in collaboration with be’ah.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saif al Kalbani, Director General of Environmental Affairs at EA, said the workshop explored the current state of construction waste management in the Sultanate, identifying both challenges and strategic opportunities.
“This initiative underscores Oman’s commitment to environmental protection, pollution reduction, and the principles of a circular economy—key pillars of Oman Vision 2040,” Kalbani said.
He added that the Environment Authority is actively engaging with public and private sector stakeholders to strengthen the waste management framework. Key developments include the rollout of the National Waste Management Policy, the drafting of a Waste Sector Law, and the issuance of new integrated waste management regulations.
