Oman has signed 18 investment agreements valued at over $260 million to accelerate the growth of its logistics sector and strengthen its role as a regional trade hub. The announcements were made during the 2025 Logistics Day celebrations, held under the patronage of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, and attended by H.E. Saeed bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology.
Organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, the event, themed “Logistics Technologies and Investment,” emphasized the sector’s growing reliance on advanced technologies to enhance competitiveness and efficiency.
The agreements span key areas such as ports, airports, warehousing, and transport, many integrating smart logistics solutions. Highlights include LNG infrastructure projects at Sohar Port, a gold refinery and drone research academy at Oman Airports, and Oman SATS’ commitment to offering up to 50% discounts on logistics services for perishables until December 31, 2025.
Abdullah bin Ali al Busaidi, Acting Head of Oman Logistics Centre, noted, “We aim for logistics to become the second-largest contributor to Oman’s GDP.” The sector contributed approximately $5.85 billion in 2024 (5.9% of GDP), with plans to raise its contribution to $93.6 billion by 2040 under the Logistics Sector Strategy 2040.
Among the key announcements was a framework agreement for the National Port Community System, aimed at digitizing logistics operations, enhancing transparency, and integrating platforms at ports and border crossings.
The event also saw the launch of initiatives to improve urban mobility—such as shared e-bikes for university campuses in Muscat and Salalah—and key infrastructure investments, including LNG berths at Sohar Port, new customs warehouses and a tech hub at Muscat airport, and a 12-year contract with Zahara Airport Services to manage the Muscat airport hotel.
Al Madina Logistics will expand its Sohar Logistics Station and develop a specialized energy transport fleet, while a new integrated bus terminal will be built in Liwa. Darb Investment plans to introduce a national freight management platform, and Asyad Ports, with O Bunkering, will launch ship-fuelling services at Port Sultan Qaboos.
