AFM Group, a Switzerland-based leader in airport technology, has signed two agreements with Iraq’s General Company for Air Navigation Services (GCANS) to modernize Baghdad International Airport (BIAP).
The scope of work includes:
Upgrading the airport’s airfield lighting system to energy-efficient LED technology
Replacing current aircraft docking systems with advanced Visual Docking Guidance Systems (VDGS) provided by Belgium’s ADB Safegate
According to AFM Group, these enhancements aim to improve safety and operational efficiency on the airside, reduce aircraft turnaround times, and accommodate the future growth of air traffic at BIAP.
“The introduction of VDGS will streamline aircraft positioning and ensure accurate stand guidance, even in low-visibility conditions,” the company stated.
