Rafic Hariri International Airport (RHIA) activity registered a 4.9% y-o-y growth in the total number of passengers reaching 6.57M during 2014.
The airline traffic was highly affected by the regional and local instabilities that painted the country in the past few years especially in 2013 where the majority of economic indicators closed at a very low base. This could partly explain the progress of airport passengers’ number with both arrivals and departures revealing yearly rises. In fact, total arrivals rose by 3.4% comparing to 2013 to reach 3.22M, while total departures added 6.3% y-o-y to 3.33M. Yet, the number of tourists in transit fell 7.9% by the end of 2014 to 14,400.
On a monthly basis, airport passengers’ number at RHIA reached 573,231 in December 2014 only, 12.3% higher than December 2013. Arrivals and Departures improved by 11.4% and 13.6% respectively meanwhile transit travelers dropped by 20.8% from last year to 1,333 tourists.
