The Gulf country’s change in visa policy was told to Lahbib El Malki, President of Morocco’s House of Representatives, and Moulay Hafid Elalamy, Minister of Industry, who is currently representing King Mohammed VI at the official inauguration ceremony of Hamad Port held today, Sept. 5, in Qatar.
El Malki was received by Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who thanked the King for “the efforts that have been made to promote Qatar’s economy in the service of the fraternal Qatar people,” according to a press release issued by the Moroccan House of Representatives.
The Moroccan officials were then welcomed by Minister Al Thani, who informed them of his country’s decision to launch the visa-free program.
On August 9, Qatar announced visa-free program to allow citizens of 80 countries to enter the gulf country without applying for a visa. Morocco however was not included. The program aims to encourage tourism and air transport sectors, Qatar Tourism Authority has revealed.
Hamad Port
According to the same statement, the Hamad Port, inaugurated by the Qatari emir, will be one of the most important in the country and the Middle East. The port is located on the southeast coast of Qatar, one hour from Doha.
According to Al Jazeera media, “the port will help Qatar achieve food security and economic diversification in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.”
