Egypt's Arab Contractors (AC) and Orascom Construction expect to complete the digging of three tunnels under the Suez Canal by 2018, it said in a statement.
AC chairman Mohsen Salah said the tunnels will cost 18 billion Egyptian pounds ($2 billion) to build, according to Egypt’s Amwal Alghad newspaper.
Part of major developmental projects in Suez Canal, the tunnels will link the canal cities designated for cars and railway to ease trade activities, he added.
Two tunnels will be in Port Said for cars while the third will be designated for railway, linking the east with west regions of the Suez Canal.
