Hamad Port, the largest port in the Middle East, has seen a huge rise of 47.3 percent in number of vessels coming and a 110.7 percent rise in the tonnage in August. The port harboured 162 vessels in August this year compared to 110 vessels in the same month last year. Net tonnage at the port rose to 1,296,300 tonnes in August against 615,200 tonnes in August 2016.
On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, the port saw 19.1 percent increase in number of vessel coming as 136 vessels harboured at the port in July 2017. Net tonnage at the port rose by 5.3 percent on MoM basis.
A total of 602 vessels harboured at all the ports in Qatar in August this year. The figures were provided by the 44th edition of Qatar Monthly Statistics released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics yesterday. The demographic statistics showed that the population of Qatar population has increased from 2.40 million in August 2016 to more than 2.44 million at end of August 2017, reflecting Year-on- Year growth of 1.9 percent.
The monthly statistics highlighted a significant increase in number of beneficiaries of social security benefits as it has reached 14,163 during August 2017, whereas the total value of social security benefits was about QR82.7m during August 2017.
Total broad money supply (M2) recorded about QR559bn during the month of August 2017 showing an annual increase of 14.4 percent compared with August 2016 from last year. Cash equivalents (including deposits) attained for QR793.6bn during August 2017. The figure has recorded an annual increase of 20 percent in comparison with August 2016 from last year.
The bulletin also highlighted that the total number of registered vehicles has reached 5,420 new vehicles during August 2017.
The figure has registered a monthly increase of 41.2 percent compared to last July 2017, where the total number of registered vehicles was 3,839 new vehicles. A total of 450 traffic cases were recorded during August 2017, showing a monthly decrease of, 0.2 percent in comparison with the previous, month July 2017 where it reached only 451 traffic cases. At the same instance, 12 death cases were recorded during August 2017.
A total number of 2,189 live births were registered in August 2017, on the other hand, 184 deaths were recorded during the same period. On another aspect, the total number of registered marriages was 374 in August 2017, whereas the total no of divorces were 109.
With regard to building permit, the bulletin showed that their total number has reached 719 permits during August 2017, and thus recorded a monthly increase of 14.3 percent in as compared to July 2017.
The total electricity utilization value during August 2017 was 4,641.4 GWh attaining a monthly increase of 2.6 percent as compared with last month. The bulletin also showed that the total value of water consumption has reached 45,421.4 thousand m3 during the same month i.e. a monthly increase of 0.3 percent.
