The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has signed a contract valued at approximately USD 72.8 million with Khimji Ramdas Contracting and Archimedes Marine Engineering to develop a multi-purpose fishing port in the Wilayat of Masirah.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, on behalf of the Ministry.
The fishing port project in Masirah aims to provide essential services to the fisheries sector, while also supporting the tourism and commercial sectors, as well as the Royal Oman Police. Additionally, it will serve visitors to the port.
The development will include 4,172 meters of breakwaters and a basin to be deepened by 5 meters. The port will feature a 1,100-meter long sandy beach and 13 floating berths.
The Ministry also entered into a usufruct agreement with National Phoenix Company to establish a white-legged shrimp farming project in the Wilayat of Shinas, North Al Batinah Governorate. Covering 15 hectares, the project supports Oman’s national efforts to enhance food security and diversify income sources, aligning with Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on boosting investments in non-oil sectors.
This project is expected to produce 7,500 tonnes of white-legged shrimp annually, with an investment of approximately USD 60.9 million.
